Thierry Taberna, Head of Computer Science; Form Teacher DP 2
Mr Thierry has a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science from the University of Nantes, a Master’s Degree in Computing from the University of Toulouse and a Degree of Teaching French as a Second Language (DAEFLE). He has previously worked as a software engineer and software developer in various companies in France. Mr Thierry joined BIS in summer 2015 and has been very effective in inspiring a wide range of students to improve their ICT, design and coding skills.
Adelia Kadyralieva, Computer Science, Mathematics & Design Teacher
Ms Adelia graduated from the American University of Central Asia with a degree in Applied Mathematics and Informatics and a minor in Software Engineering. During her studies, she completed two academic exchange programs in the USA, worked as an English language and Math tutor, taught programming skills to teenagers and prepared high school graduates for the Republican Test. Ms Adelia joined the BIS team in July 2018.
Azamat Kasymov, Head of Mathematics; Mathematics & Economics Teacher
Mr Azamat has a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from the American University of Central Asia (AUCA), where he also taught undergraduate level mathematics. He is a part-time research assistant at AUCA and has helped to write several mathematics textbooks for primary through to university level mathematics. Mr Azamat enjoys teaching mathematics at BIS with a special focus on our more advanced students. Mr Azamat is also currently completing his PhD in Economics.
Toon Cavens, Mathematics Teacher & Theory of Knowledge Teacher
Mr Cavens is originally from Belgium, where he studied Mathematics and Economics. Afterwards he studied Philosophy in Paris, and English Literature in London. He joined BIS in summer 2016 to teach Mathematics and Theory of Knowledge. Mr Cavens hopes to instill in his students a life-long passion for learning, and to help them to develop their own ideas.
Jacques Prinsloo, Math, Business Studies & Economics Teacher, IGCSE Coordinator, Form Teacher IGCSE2
Mr Jacques has a PGCE in Secondary teaching from the University of South Africa, a diploma in Investment management from the University of South Africa, a Bachelors in Economics from the University of Pretoria, a Diploma in teaching English as an Additional Language and is currently completing a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Illinois. Mr Jacques taught EAL in South Korea for several years before joining BIS in summer 2017. He also has coaching experience in soccer and cricket at elementary level and rugby at high school level.
Ethan Narimatsu, Head of Science; Science and Biology Teacher
Mr Ethan graduated from the University of Washington, USA, with a BSc in Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology. He also studied Epidemiology at the Karolinska Institute in Sweden and Public Health at the University of Southern Denmark. After graduating he spent three years managing laboratories for medical research before changing careers to spend two years as a Peace Corps Health Volunteer in Kyrgyzstan. Mr Ethan joined BIS in summer 2017 as Head of Science.
Alisher Arstanbek, Science, Physics and Mathematics Teacher; Form Teacher MYP 1
Mr Alisher has a Degree in Engineering from the Kyrgyz Russian Slavic University (KRSU) and has teaching and research experience at several educational institutions. He is currently working on his dissertation for postgraduate studies in Engineering at KRSU while he works full time at BIS. He enjoys teaching and helping students discover their abilities and talents. Mr Alisher joined BIS in 2016 and teaches Sciences and Mathematics in middle and high school.
Kenzhe Estaev, Science Teacher, Lab Technician
Mr Kenzhe graduated with a degree in Chemical Engineering from Kyrgyz-Turkish University of Manas and has spent the last 9 months working for Kumtor as a lubrication specialist, following work as a laboratory assistant at the Kyrgyz-Chinese Research Centre for Ecology and Environment of Central Asia. Kenzhe joined BIS in summer 2018.
Jason Lorenowicz, Individuals & Societies, Geography and History Teacher; Form Teacher IGCSE1
Mr Jay is from Manitoba, Canada and has a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg. Mr Jay has been teaching overseas for 25 years and joined BIS in 2016 after teaching in Azerbaijan for three years. Mr Jay has spent 15 years in the Gulf States, including Kuwait, Oman and Saudi Arabia. He has also taught in Malawi, Maldives and England, among other places. His interests include travel, music, photography and sports.
Spencer Santa Coloma, History Teacher; DP Extended Essay Coordinator
Mr Spencer has a Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology and History from Grand Valley State University, Grand Rapids, Michigan, USA, and a Certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language. Before joining BIS in summer 2017, Mr Spencer spent a year teaching English at Yildirim Beyazit University, Ankara, Turkey, following two years in the Kyrgyz Republic teaching English to school students as a Peace Corps Volunteer.
Andrew Wheeler, Geography Teacher; English Language Acquisition Teacher
Mr Wheeler has a Bachelors of Arts in International Studies, Cross-Cultural Studies, and Peace Studies from Whitworth University, Washington State. Mr Andrew is passionate about human rights and community dialogue, so he has experience working in grassroots nonprofit organizations. Before joining our team, he served for two years as a Peace Corps Volunteer teaching English as a Foreign Language in Naryn, Kyrgyzstan. He will teach English, Humanities, and Geography at BIS.
James Grant, Athletics Director; PE Teacher; Individuals & Societies Teacher; Form Teacher MYP2
Mr. Grant graduated from Flinders University, South Australia with a Bachelor of Education (Middle & Secondary) and a Bachelor of Health Sciences with a major in Physical Education & Health and minor in Humanities. Mr Grant is a registered and qualified teacher in South Australia and has worked in various international schools in Australia and Asia before joining BIS in summer 2017. Iin addition to teaching physical education and Individuals and Societies in the MYP, Mr Grant also coordinates sports at BIS as Athletics Director.
Slava Klychev, PE Teacher & Athletics Assistant
Mr Slava graduated from Kyrgyz State Technical University and studied for a Masters in Sports. He is an International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) certified trainer with more than 10 years of experience. He has participated in both Asian and Worldwide championships and was a Youth Olympic Games participant. Mr Slava joined BIS in summer 2018.
Krisha Ganhdi, Head of Languages; Spanish Teacher
Ms Krisha graduated from University of London’s School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) where she studied Mandarin and History. She is a qualified Primary Teacher (PGCE) with teaching experience in the UK and as a teaching assistant in China. Krisha joined BIS in summer 2017 as Primary 1 teacher and her proven skills led to her appointment as PYP Coordinator and Head of Languages from summer 2018. Krisha is a dedicated teacher who is passionate about education.
Stephanie Jackson, English Language Acquisition Coordinator; English Teacher; Drama Teacher
Ms Stephanie has a Master of Science in Education and a Bachelor of Arts in Education and Social Studies from Elmira College, New York, USA. She joined BIS in summer 2017 following completion of her Peace Corps Volunteer Program in Karakol, teaching English and social studies to young people.
Chynygul Bakyt kyzy, Russian and Kyrgyz Language Acquisition Coordinator; Russian Language Teacher
Ms Chynygul graduated from the Kyrgyz-Chinese faculty of Bishkek Humanities University (BHU) in Bishkek in 2012. Before joining BIS in April 2016 she worked at the London School of Languages and Cultures, and at the Kyrgyz National University teaching Russian, Kyrgyz and English languages. In addition to her language acquisition coordination and teaching responsibilities, Chynygul is also ECA Coordination assistant.
Lance Tillman, English Language and Literature Teacher
Dr Tillman has a Bachelor of Arts in Sociology and a PhD in Humanities and a wealth of teaching experience in the US, ranging from teaching Community College through to University levels. In 2006 he joined AUCA in Bishkek, where he taught courses such as American Literature, World Religions, Contemporary American Issues, American Popular Culture, Rhetoric of Contemporary America, and English Composition. He served as chair of the American Studies Department. Dr Tillman joined BIS in summer 2015 and he has been an inspiration to students in developing their critical thinking and improving English language writing and communication skills.
Jan Scott, English Language and Literature Teacher & Theory of Knowledge Teacher
Mr Scott has a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy and Russian from the University of Florida and also brings his experience of successfully completing the IB Diploma Programme at public school in the US. He joined BIS in summer 2018 following teaching work in Kyrgyz universities and language schools.
Eunchong (Grace) Park, English Language and Literature Teacher; Form Teacher MYP3
Ms Grace has a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education and English from Gordon College, Wenham, Massachusetts, USA, and teaching experience in both the US and in Kyrgyzstan. Ms. Park is a Korean citizen, who joined BIS in summer 2017. She is organizing the NEASC Accreditation process, serving as the Chair of the Steering Committee. Ms Grace teaches English language and literature and English as an additional language to students in both the MYP and IGCSE programs.
Victoria Whall, English Language Acquisition Teacher
Ms Victoria joined BIS in 2016 to teach English as an Additional Language. She has a Bachelor’s of Social Science in Economics and Russian Studies from the University of Birmingham and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Broadcast Journalism (TV and Radio) from City University in London. She also has a CELTA teaching qualification to teach English as a Second Language and has taught English at Dongobesh Secondary School in Tanzania and at British Council language camps in Israel. Before becoming a teacher, Ms Victoria worked as a freelance journalist for the BBC, reporting from Mongolia. Ms Victoria is a keen student of languages and speaks Russian, French and English.
Grace Lim, English Language Acquisition Teacher; English Language and Literature Teacher
Ms Lim has a BA in Liberal Arts, an AAS Degree in Communication Arts and a Masters in Teaching English as a Second Language from the University of San Francisco. She also has Multiple Subject CLAD Teaching Certification in California. Her experience is very varied in the California public schools system, with an emphasis on teaching English and creative arts, as well as being a Grade teacher.
Pierre Grau, French Language Teacher
Mr Pierre holds a Master’s degree with honours in Teaching, specializing in French as a foreign language, and a Bachelor's has degree (hons) in French Literature. He has been teaching for eight years to a wide range of levels, from kindergarten to university, in Berlin, Lahore and Bishkek. He is finishing a second Master’s degree in Digital Education and Pedagogical Engineering. He is running the interactive multilingual school magazine called "Bailanysh" and he is involved in basketball coaching.
Lailo Youssoup-Akhounova, French and Russian Language Teacher
Lailo Youssoup-AkhounovaMs Lailo joined BIS as a French language teacher in 2016. She has extensive experience teaching both French and Russian languages, including at local universities, the Alliance Française and Embassies. She graduated in 1984 from the Kyrgyz National University. In addition to teaching, Ms Lailo is a professional translator.
Juan Verger, Spanish Language Teacher
Mr Juan graduated from Euroaula University in Barcelona and has been teaching Spanish at all levels in different countries since 2012. Mr Juan joined BIS in early 2018 to teach Spanish at IB Diploma level and now teaches in both Primary and Middle school, as well as IB Diploma.
Arzygul Almasbekova, German Language Teacher
Ms Arzygul has a bachelor degree in German Language and Linguistics from Kyrgyz National University. While completing her degree received a scholarship in “Universitat Passau” in Germany as a participant of international exchange program DAAD. Prior to university she attended the private Kyrgyz-German “SOS Hermann Gmeiner” school in Bishkek. Ms Arzygul enjoys working with children and helping them achieve their dreams through enhancing their education by increasing their knowledge of German language and broadening their outlook on life.
Makiko Inaba, Japanese Language Teacher
Ms Makiko has a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology from Waseda University in Japan. Foreign languages and cultures have always been her passion and she has lived in the United States, South Korea, France, China and the Kyrgyz Republic in pursuit of that passion. She has experience tutoring students ranging from elementary to high school level, and of teaching at publicly funded educational centers in South Korea. Ms Makiko joined BIS in summer 2014 andis a much-loved teacher with exceptional skills in education. Ms Makiko has been teaching Japanese language at BIS for 4 years to IGCSE and IBDP students.
Nazira Almasbekova, Mandarin and Russian Language Teacher
Ms Nazira has a Master’s degree from the University of International Business and Economics, Beijing, and a Diploma from Beijing Language and Culture University. She has worked as a teacher and interpreter in China and joined BIS in summer 2017.
Indira Bekkoenova, Russian Language Teacher
Ms Indira graduated from the Kyrgyz National University, where she studied Russian philology. She has extensive experience teaching Russian language and literature to school and university students. She joined the BIS team in 2013 and loves the warm and friendly environment.
Nazgul Sultakeeva, Kyrgyz Language Teacher
Ms Nazgul has a Postgraduate degree in Kyrgyz Philology from Arabaev Kyrgyz State University. She has over 10 years teaching experience in universities in the Kyrgyz Republic and joined BIS in summer 2017.
Nazgul Kakelova, Russian & Kyrgyz Language Teacher
Ms Nazgul has a Degree in Teaching Russian Language from the Kyrgyz State National Universityand over 20 years teaching experience in schools in the Kyrgyz Republic. Ms Nazgul joined BIS in summer 2016.
Saikal Maatkerimova, Kyrgyz, Russian and Host Country Studies Teacher
Ms Saikal has a Bachelor of Arts in Archeology and History from the Kyrgyz-Turkish "Manas" University. In 2010 she took part in archeological expeditions and in 2015-2016 she taught History of the region to SRAS students. She also has 5 years’ experience of teaching Russian and Kyrgyz as a foreign language. Ms Saikal is currently also studying Kyrgyz Philology at Bishkek Humanitarian University.
Anara Baisalova, Head of Visual and Performing Arts; Music Teacher
Ms Anara has over 10 years of experience in teaching piano to students of different ages and is a certified accompanist for chamber musicians and voice/ballet artists. She has accompanied various artists and performances, and has taught Piano as a Musical Performance Art in Kyrgyzstan and in South Korea. Ms Anara joined BIS in winter 2015 and has a key role in preparing students for school performances.
Heidemaria Oberthür, Music Teacher
Ms Heidi has many years of teaching experience in solo, choral and children's voice education, as well as in singing lessons for ambitious singers. She also teaches flute and musicology for children. Previously, she worked at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Vienna and in music schools in Austria. Heidi is joining us part time in 2018/19 providing music for primary students and supporting performance preparation.
Aidai Sharshekeeva, Art Teacher
Ms Aidai has a BA in Surface Design from London College of Communications, and also studied at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design in London. After graduating, she worked as a designer and fabric embroiderer with key fashion brands in London before returning to the Kyrgyz Republic to work with artists and designers. She also taught at the University of Management and Design, and more recently taught art and design in an international school for all ages from Primary to High school. Ms Aidai joined BIS in summer 2017 to teach art and design in middle and high school.
Anna Balduk, Art Teacher
Ms Anna studied at the Children’s Art School and graduated from the Kyrgyz State Art School in 1991 with a degree in Teaching Art. She has over 20 years’ experience in teaching art to children of various ages and joined the BIS team in 2013.
Meerim Makambaeva, Dance & PE Teacher
Ms Meerim graduated in Economics from the Kyrgyz Russian Slavic University. She has a Diploma in Folk and Modern Dance in the National Ensemble of Kyrgyzstan “Jash-Kyal”, where she studied for 12 years. She has also participated in many dance competitions and festivals and continues to teach dance because it is her passion. Ms Meerim joined BIS in 2016.
Aida Irsalieva, Community Projects Coordinator (IBDP CAS & MYP)
Ms Aida graduated from the Kyrgyz Russian Slavic University in Bishkek with a Diploma in International Relations. She joined the BIS team in 2015 and has experience in both administration and teaching roles, including as Co-Teacher with Primary 6 in 2016/17. From summer 2017, Ms Aida is the CAS Coordinator for the IB Diploma Programme, and Community Projects Coordinator for the IB Middle Years Programme.
Anastasiya Saparalieva, College Councellor/Librarian
Ms Anastasia has MA in European Studies from Hochschule Bremen, Germany and BA in International and Comparative Politics from AUCA, Kyrgyzstan. Prior to joining BIS in February 2018, she worked in Student Services at Exeter University, UK. Ms Anastasia advises IGCSE and DP students on their university application process and also teaches research skills to middle and high school students. Ms Anastasia is very dedicated to developing BIS library and encourages reading for pleasure.
Munara Raiymbekova, Library Assistant
Ms Munara graduated from Kyrgyz National University with degree in Mathematical Methods in Economics. She has over seven years of administrative experience before joining BIS in November 2017. Working in the Primary Library, Ms Munara particularly enjoys helping young readers to discover new characters and adventures.
